My campaign slogan sums up how I view my service: Rooted in tradition, Reaching for excellence, Grounded in trust.
But what does that mean in practice? Let me tell you more….
Galt residents care deeply about their family and friends. We have special traditions that connect generations and give Galt its small-town charm, such as Lighting of the Night, the Saturday Market, Annual Eggstravaganza, and our Independence Day celebration. The value of these traditions cannot be underestimated. In our schools, this is no different. Our celebrations, assemblies and festivals hold a special glue that makes students feel like they belong to something bigger and makes them feel valued. I regularly attend these events to support staff and families.
Many of our sites have special traditions that have been going on for years, such as morning sing, talent shows, senior walks, spelling bees, color runs, and picnic on the grounds! This welcoming feeling contributes to positive learning outcomes and improved attendance. Parents and their children even have participated in the same traditions over time and older students return to share their wisdom with younger students in whose steps they once walked.
I am a strong supporter of all types of traditions that help people feel they are essential, both in and outside the classroom. At a time of funding challenges, I continue to actively support these experiences for our students and families.
Every child deserves an excellent education -- strong teachers, effective curriculum, enriching experiences, and inviting schools. I believe in academic rigor to help promote critical thinking in our classrooms. I am often in communication with district leaders to understand our academic performance and how we can continue to grow. In our district, we have incredible teachers. I believe it is important to continue to attract and retain qualified educators.
Schools should have the tools and resources to bring out each child’s unique talents and meet their needs. Literacy remains a key priority for me as the foundational building block for all other learning. I also encourage life skills, civics, and career readiness.
During my tenure, I have advocated for additional literacy resources for students. I also support early exposure to outdoor education and the arts, another area of passion for me. I have a deep love for nature and the outdoors. For some of our students, this may be the only exposure they have had in these areas, and these experiences could ultimately lead to future careers and dreams!
I also hold myself to the same standards as I prepare and research education for my board role. I track and communicate relevant legislation and continually educate myself on environmental trends. I share information openly and transparently.
Trust is paramount. Trust is built on preparation, responsibility, and knowing others can count on you. Parents are important partners in decisions about their child’s education and should be able to trust that their children are safe and cared for at school.
PARENTS AS PARTNERS
You should be able to trust that your children are safe and that you are viewed as an important partner in your child’s education and decisions. You should have trust in your teachers and the administration and have your voice heard. I believe you have both in me and that I have consistently demonstrated trust through my recommendations and voting record.
I have spoken out about parental rights as well as potentially harmful items that could impact your child. I have supported the addition of a school resource officer and publicly supported protecting students’ privacy and safety in bathrooms, locker rooms, and athletics.
FISCAL STEWARDSHIP
Citizens should be able to trust their hard-earned taxpayer dollars are managed wisely. I honor this stewardship and consider decisions carefully and diligently. I monitor not only local trends but trends in the larger economy that could impact our local district. I ask thoughtful questions to fully understand the impact of any budgetary or financial decisions. I believe in making financial decisions that will be sustainable in the long-term.
